Well, I’m going home, back to the place where I belong And where your love has always been enough for me I’m not running from, no, I think you got me all wrong I don’t regret this life I chose for me But these places and these faces are getting old So I’m going home, … Continue reading

Miss Princess Boobah

Someday my prince will come
Someday we’ll meet again
And away to his castle we’ll go
To be happy forever I know
Someday when spring is here
We’ll find our love anew
And the birds will sing and weddingbells will ring
Someday when my dreams come true

My little girl is a full on princess. To the point where when asked what her name was, she’d say princess… granted she was just learning her name but you get my point. IN fact the other day, she told me she was going to live in a castle. I asked her who she was going to live with and she pointed to her friend Bobby and said… with BOBBY, he’s my prince.  Poor Bobby, didn’t even see it coming.

Since it became a reality that my kids would actually get their own rooms and therefore I would have to decorate a GIRLS room I started Pinning like CRAZY.

At first, I was thinking super girlie:

Then I got my PotteryBarn Kids catalog:

Then she started taking ballet, and I remembered my own love of impressionists and Degas:

And my inspiration started…. What goes with black and white charcoal????? Why Tiffany Blue of course?!

Do you know HOW many different Tiffany Blues there are out there?  A LOT! And of course none of them are CALLED Tiffany Blue, they are all more Robins Egg. Then do you want to go more teal, more bright, more blue, subtle, green-ish, etc etc etc.
G was ready to kill me because I was so scared to pull the trigger.  After two trips to two paint stores, plus ENDLESS hours on the internet. I settled on Benjamin Moore, Spectra Blue.

Benjamin Moore, Spectra Blue

Gorge, right?
She is keeping all the furniture from her and her brother’s room. So the crib and dresser that match, both are a deep mahogany almost espresso color.  She’ll also have the Cameron Bookshelves from PBK… We have two of the cubbies, I haven’t decided if I’m going to stack them or get the drawer base for extra storage. Or if D will get them after all; that will be a decision for after we move in anyway.

I also went ahead and ordered some prints for the walls… I.AM.SO.EXCITED about them I think they are just LOVELY. And I know she is going to love them too.

Edgar Degas, Dancers in Blue

Seated Dancer Adjusting Her Shoes

A Dancer Seen in Profile

Three Dancers

None of the prints are huge, so I will have to decide how to group them, as well as what color frames, etc. LOVE IT

What i REALLY love is the light we got for her room. It is SO PRINCESS!!!!  But a cool princess, not a fru-fru princess.

Can you believe that is from Home Depot?! It’s not super big, it’s more on the precious side. Just lovely.

I have also been toying with the idea of a stencil on one of the walls to break up the blue. What do you think? Maybe something like…..

Trellis – either in white or a darker shade of blue

More graphic… again tone on tone or white.

or maybe something more magical….

Such as Castles or Fairies

So what do you think of Little Miss Princess Boobah’s room?  I can’t wait to show everyone the AFTER, not just the mood boards for all these rooms. We’re getting to the finish line. Hopefully only another month of the “summer” rental.

I’m trying to speak but girl you got me tongue-tied
I’m trying to breathe but I’m f-f-f-frozen inside
I’m trying to move but I’m stuck in my shoes
You got me paralyzed, paralyzed, p-p-p-paralyzed
I see you walking, but all you do is pass me by
Can’t even talk, cause words don’t fall into my mind
I’d make a move if I had the guts to
But I’m paralyzed, paralyzed, p-p-p-paralyzed

So whenever I work on a large personal project I get to a point where I feel absolutely paralyzed.

Why? I’m not sure.

Maybe it’s because it’s coming to a close and I don’t want it to. Maybe it’s nerves that all my planning was for naught. I don’t know, but I’ve always been that way. From my senior art show in high school, to graduating college, to our wedding, to closing on the house. It’s very odd considering how decisive I am and how well I plan things. I’m sure that at some point I will get what I have referred to as “wedding day zen.” That feeling the morning of the wedding when you know that all your hard work is going to come to fruition and whatever happens, happens. There is nothing you can do to change it at that point. And no matter what, it will be perfect because it is yours.

I have been delaying even posting because I want each of these to be “perfect synopsis” of whatever I’m thinking or doing. I want the pictures to be perfect, organized, show a clear story, etc. But that’s just it. the story isn’t always clear and concise and i don’t have to be either.

So as we start down the final stretch I’ll be posting fast and furious. I hope.

What I did on the Fourth!

Remember in school in September when you had to write the whole “What I did on My Summer Vacation” essay. And you’d try to distill 3 months of fun into a few short paragraphs… That’s almost how I feel about putting together all we did yesterday.

First off, everyone slept in, which was AWESOME!!!!  We had a nice lazy breakfast and then got down to it. G and I had a list of things we needed to accomplish.

  1. Laundry
  2. Furniture Shopping (new couch for family room)
  3. Pool

Somewhere in there needed to be nourishment as well but that’s a given. Now I know three things doesn’t sound like a lot, but man did it feel like it.

I think I’ve mentioned that laundry is a little wonky these days. We don’t have a laundry in our rental, so we’re carting our laundry weekly across the street. It is super annoying but it is what it is. So while G headed over to bring our laundry started, I corralled the kids got them dressed and told them the plan. I think D was hoping we were going to the store with the goldfish (Bob’s) but we weren’t so I did what any good parent did and avoided the conversation.

We all piled into the car, it was about 90° and it was only 10am. OY! Headed straight to Raymour & Flanigan where a lovely assistant latched onto the shit show that was our family in that store. They got balloons which was great as we could see where they were in the store because they went crazy!!!!  I think they jumped on every bed and rolled on every couch. The wheels were coming off the bus!!!

We did find a lovely couch.  It was  very hard to concentrate though because as soon as we’d sit down on it, something would happen that would cause one of us to get up and go running into the leather sectional section, or to the beds. Finally we put them in time out and Hubs and I could have a conversation that lasted longer than a grunt or a “your turn.”

We almost bought it, but i didn’t LOVE it. And when we asked about getting it in the color we REALLY wanted, chocolate brown, it got quite expensive. Even with the Fourth of July sale.

So we decided it was best if we went and grabbed lunch so off to Panera we went. The kids definitely were hungry and once they ate were MUCH better behaved. Do we dare push our luck and head to the next store… OF COURSE we do. Gluttons for punishment is what we are. Off to Macy’s Rt. 22 Furniture Gallery We’ve had luck here before, we purchased a rug and was impressed with the furniture selection. Even though the store is a little sketch sometimes.

It’s SO different from the other one isn’t it!

Anyhoo, after about a half hour of hunting, sitting and chasing the kids through rug piles with a quick pit stop for the Big One. We found a couch!!!!

It’s the Raja 2 Piece Microfiber Sectional. Instead of the Mocha color that it comes in we’re getting it in GODIVA! YUM.

AND the best part was that we got a SWEET deal and even with custom fabric it came out MUCH cheaper than the Vegas Couch… (Insert Favorite Vegas Joke Here)

So NOW I am super pumped to put together the family room. It is right next to the kitchen, so whatever we do in one, has to be able to live with the other. This actually helps another HUGE decision I was in the process of making regarding the kitchen but I”ll get to that later.

Here is how they looked pre-move:

Clearly this was not “shot for the blog” otherwise I would have cleaned up a little!!!

From another angle:

I can’t believe I didn’t do anything with those blinds in 7 years!!!

And this is what I am hoping it will look like post construction:

I took some pictures of the empty family room just for this very purpose, I’m just so happy that I actually got one from the right angle. I *think* I have the proportions right on the sectional but you get the idea.

I want to pull from this color palette:

However, I’m not going to lie, I’m a little scared. I LOVE all the modern graphic patterns and I’m going ALL IN, and I also LOVE the color combo of blue and brown. I just have to fully convince myself that yes all the other colors go as well and I can mix patterns.

I’m going to paint the walls the slate gray color and use the yellow, green and blue as accents throughout.

How awesome are those curtains!?!?! LOVE THEM. I’ll be placing an order for them soon, just have to get the Hub’s approval on everything.I want to hang them closer to the ceiling as I’ve heard that it makes the room seem bigger, at least that’s what my friends on HGTV and TLC have said. Has anyone tried that in their homes?

I also found those great pillows on Etsy, however I’m not getting them. Not that I don’t love the lattice pattern, but I’m going to buy non-designer pillows most likely at Target but maybe Kohl’s or Bed Bath, and Beyond. We beat up our couches and pillows, I don’t want to spend a lot. They are just inspiration. Ways of getting a little more pop of color.

So that’s the plan! The couch won’t be due back until we’re almost ready to move back in. And they might have to do work in that room while they’re building the addition so I won’t be donning my coveralls anytime soon to paint. But it is SUCH a relief to have a plan. For at least one room!

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. When you move into a “move-in ready” house you tend to not do anything to make it your own. I am SO excited to be changing things on the first floor. Yes things are fine and we’ve lived with them for 7 years but they aren’t OURs.

Onward and upward!!!

OOOH I almost forgot… we did make it to the pool… finally.

How adorable are they?!

D and his friend participated in the balloon toss. They did pretty well!

E invented a new way to eat an ice cream sandwich…. with a spoon of course…. that’s my girl

D’s Room

I am so STINKIN’ EXCITED about the prints I just ordered for D’s room.

Check out how awesome these minimalist posters are:

He’s getting Captain America, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Hulk. I would have loved to have just gotten the Justice League but I didn’t love the Green Lantern one. And D loves the Captain and Hulk is one of his favorites… I guess I can deal with some DC and Marvel Universe crossover.

I’m in the process of putting together a house tour of the Summer Rental.

At the tips of my fingers

There are so many wonderful tools out there when you are looking to decorate a room, whether its from scratch or remodeling. Since I’m a big fan of trolling the web for things to make my life easier I have of course found MANY MANY MANY of these.

Here are a few of my favorites, as well as links to some printables that I have found and plan to use.

I’m going to start with the site I’m MOST excited about.

The Make Room

Basically this site, you put in your room dimensions; what type of room it is and you can plug and play with all sorts of options for where to put your furniture. LOVE IT! It is definitely a must bookmark forEVER site.

Next, check out the coolness over at Benjamin Moore. They have a tool called Personal Color Viewer, where you can upload a picture of any of your rooms, draw outlines around your walls/cabinets etc. and test out paint in various opacities and combinations. Here is me trying out some blue in my kitchen…. yeah not going with it but worth a looksee

My kitchen in muted blues!

Next of course has to be the bible of home decorating, Better Homes and Gardens. I mean really hours of my day have been lost to BHG… HOURS.

we’re doing this in E’s room… sooooo excited.

And lastly, of course is Pinterest, message me if you want an invite. I have a love/hate relationship with Pinterest. I ADORE all the ideas that I see, however it often makes me feel a little insufficient. I’m not much of a crafter, but I think I am. I don’t have the time to do it but I want to, and when I do them I don’t want to be half-assed.  That being said…. FANTASTIC recipes, FANTASTIC decorating ideas, and even more FANTASTIC kid party idea, crafts, photography etc.

What are your favorite decorating sites?

So long, farewell, aufiderzein, gooooood niiiiaaahhhhttt.

So sorry it has been so long since I’ve last posted. We’ve had a lot going on in Casa de Chaos (@Rbec totally stealing that sorry).

First, we were visiting the House of the Mouse. Had an awesome time, the kids lurved it, G and I had a fancy date night at the Grand Floridian

Isn’t it just divine, so opulent!

We even checked out Sea World, which I haven’t been to since I was a kid. SO MUCH FUN. It was crazy hot that day, so we spent most of the time playing in the fountains but the kids got a big kick out of seeing the whales.  Side note, G and I had a mini meltdown due to a complete lack of communication as far as crowds and meeting spots.  Note to self and to anyone else reading… always have your own cell phone on you. Do not just put it in the bag and have your husband carry said bag, you will inevitably get split up and not be able to communicate and then all those episodes of “Without A Trace,” “Criminal Minds,” and “The First 48” will play on a loop in both of your heads and you’ll completely freak out. NOT that it happened to us or anything…..

So now we’re back to reality, and the reality is that we’re moving on Friday!!!!  G and I have been in full on purging mode which is so much fun! We’ve boxed/bagged/binned up the entire upstairs and most of the downstairs. G is TOTALLY on board to revamp some things on the first floor which I’m excited about. Now we’ll just have to find the time to do it. The first thing, because it’s the easiest is the downstairs closet.

Here is the before:There are a few things to note… First of all it is TINY! We cram a LOT in there. The plan is to make better use of the interior space. I’ve had lots of inspiration from Pinterest as well as some of my favorite blogs (I’m talking about you iheartorganizing.blogspot.com) The general plan is to first purge (which G did a FANTASTIC job of this weekend). Then we’re going to take everything out and either paint or wallpaper the interior. I’m going to employ a better system for the hats as well as put some bins on the floor for umbrella’s and shoes. Stay tuned!

This Friday we relocate to our “Summer Rental” down the street. Excited, nervous and a little sad. While packing up the kid’s room I had a full on tearful episode. This was the room that we created FOR my son. I planned, painted and decorated every square inch of it. From the color to the chair rail to the stripes on the walls to the sticker decals. They, clearly, need their own space but it was still sad to see the room both my kids came home from the hospital to call their own, be packed up and ultimately torn down.

Til next time.
